The Thing About Salsa Dancers Today…

As a dance instructor
one of the hardest things to teach
is how to "feel" the music.

It is something that cannot be given to a student,
such as with turn patterns or shines.

While the instructor can be a helpful guide,
it is exploration on the student's part that
will ultimately lead him to understand how to
express himself to the music.

Here is a great video that explains why many dancers,
especially newer dancers, want more and more steps and
turn patterns instead of taking the time to slow things down
and focus on feeling connected to the music.

I especially like when Frankie Martinez talks about how it's
more difficult to dance to a slower song because of the "space"
you have to fill in the music. Great insight. 🙂

Enjoy!
